2006 Obsidian Ridge Syrah
216 cases produced
14.3% alcohol
3.8 pH
5.7 g/L titratable acidity
This year's Syrah was a blend of all five different clones. The grapes were hand-picked at the crack of dawn and carefully destemmed to tank where a warm fermentation extracted the brooding flavors that come with a young Syrah. The new wine was pressed at dryness and was placed in our signature Kádár Hungary oak barrels where it aged for 18 months.
The resulting wine is ample to say the least. The bouquet is filled with aromas of blackberries mulled with ginger, graham cracker and spice. An undercurrent of smoke and meatiness keep this Syrah true to character. The wine is rich and surprisingly silken despite ample tannin that flesh out the mid-palate. The wine maintains appropriate acidity that works well with the fruit to keep this Syrah fresh and lively.
